3 pts. obtained. Focus: AZTECAZO!!

Saturday night at el Olimpico Honduras demonstrated great team mentality and gave Trinidad and Tobago a soccer lesson. The “Soca Warriors” never really gave our defense a lot of trouble, making us have most of the ball possession. TNT left Honduras with a 4-1 loss, leaving them with no chances of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

Tonight is the night, the night that Honduras will probably undergo on the toughest match of all the three qualifying matches left. Mexico comes from beating Costa Rica 3-0 as visitors while Honduras comes from beating the “soca warriors” 4-1 at home. Both teams come from 3 consecutive victories. For Honduras it is important to add points because that removes pressure off from us.

We all know that the Azteca is a hard stadium to play at considering the smoke, altitude and of course the 100,000 Mexican fans cheering for them. It is not going to be an easy game for both teams. I am sure Mexico is going to attack from the beginning of the game and Honduras has to be prepared for it and counter-attack. I hope Honduras does not jump the pitch with the mentality of defending themselves against the Mexicans. Its for some reason that Honduras is the best attacking team in the Concacaf and not only that, it’s also the best defending team. We got the two best things in Concacaf.

Manager Javier Aguirre is aware about the potential of the attackers like Suazo, Costly or Pavon. He even know our potential men like Ramon Nunez, Wilson Palacios, Julio Cesar “Rambo” de Leon, Hendry Thomas among others. It’s good to know that the manager and players respect Honduras and its no surprise because of the very good qualifying games we’ve had.

The line up against Mexico has not be revealed and it will probably not be until the start of the match. What I know is that Dani Turcios and Edgar Alvarez will not play due to injuries and Hendry Thomas due to bookings. Rumors place Pavon and Costly up front. Mexico on the other side will not have Gerardo Torrado as well as Guillermo Franco due to bookings. Not major losses but that will make Aguirre place less experienced players on their positions.

Less than a year ago we visited the Azteca and were close of the Aztecazo for 73 minutes. That time we loss 2-1, so unfortunate. This time Honduras is a more mature team, it has gotten experience and the players are confident on what they do. The atmosphere that dominates around the team is pure optimism. All players are talking about a positive result or about giving their 100% on the pitch.

As I said on my last post, the only thing I care about is to scratch off at least 1 point. If we can get 3 even better of course. This is a match that almost any soccer fan would appreciate. Two teams in good form, playing for the last stretch of the World Cup and hoping to give their best.

HONDURAS, TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT YOU CAN LET THE WORLD KNOW ABOUT OUR POTENTIAL. I KNOW YOU GUYS CAN DEMONSTRATE THE SOCCER YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY AND THE PASSION AND DESIRE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO ALL FANS THIS PAST YEAR. TAKE US TO SOUTH AFRICA, 7 MILLION OF HONDURANS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A WORLD CUP FOR ALMOST THREE DECADES AND WE ARE CLOSER THAN EVER. GIVES US THAT JOY YOU’VE GIVEN ALL OF US AT EL ESTADIO OLIMPICO.

VAMOS HONDURAS!! CON TOODO!!!!

Great post man. Even though the match against Mexico was gonna be incredibly hard just because of the stadium, their moral is really high right now, after beating the US and Costa Rica. Nevertheless, I think that we have a good and experienced squad and victory is a very probable result. Pavon always scores against Mexico, it’s like it’s his only reason to live. Expect two goals from him.

@vic: “Pavon always scores against Mexico, it’s like his only reason to live”. Really? Then after his performance last night he should be writing his will.

What was all this talk about an “Aztecazo” and then Honduras plays defense all night? How does it feel to get bumped down from first place to third in just one night?

Seriously, it’s time for Honduras to recover and beat USA on October 10.

didnt you read the post? he said he believed he could happen but that he was hoping for a tie. honduras was close. who cares the way honduras played? they wanted to counter-attack, didnt happen. thats just the way soccer is. you cant talk about mexicos gameplay if you guys beat us just by one doubtful penalty. we beat you at home 3-1 and dominated the whole game. you guys dominated but only won by 1 penalty at the “AZTECA”? kinda lame isnt it. but oh well who cares about you guys, mexicans believe they are the next best thing and nothing will make them change their way of thinking. Mexico world cup champions 2010!!!

never…
